Anti-BAC® / Medipharma

Anti-BAC® housings are polystyrene compounded with silver ions throughout the material, not just coated on the surface. Silver ions are a well-established antimicrobial mechanism — used across medical devices, textiles and food packaging long before cosmetic tools — because they interfere with the basic processes bacteria need to survive and multiply: they bind to and disrupt the bacterial cell membrane, and interfere with the cell's ability to replicate. The practical effect is a surface that actively suppresses bacterial growth between cleanings, rather than merely being easy to wipe down.

That matters more for a cosmetic sharpener than it would for an office one, since a beauty tool is handled repeatedly and sits close to skin — and in professional settings, is often shared across clients or team members. Because the silver ions are compounded into the polystyrene itself, the effect doesn't wash off or wear away the way a topical antibacterial coating eventually would.
